Tooth Extractions

At The Grove Family Dentistry, we value preventive dentistry. Our aim is to help our patients keep their teeth well into old age. Unfortunately there are many factors of life that make it challenging if not all together impossible for some. When the course of last resort needs to be taken and a tooth needs to be extracted, call us at The Grove Family Dentistry. We believe in saving a tooth if at all possible, but when the time comes that a tooth needs to be pulled it will be done with care and compassion.

Most tooth extractions are simple and very routine. Teeth with only one or two roots like those in the front part of your mouth are usually easily removed. The molars have three and sometimes four roots and depending on how the roots are positioned, removal may be more involved. Dr. Truong has experience in extracting teeth with a calm and gentle touch.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

The last teeth to erupt are the wisdom teeth and they usually appear during the late teen years or early twenties. Many young people experience problems with these teeth as they are known for not coming in straight. Wisdom teeth may grow in sideways or up under the adjacent tooth. When their growth interferes with another tooth because there is not enough room for them to grow in correctly, they are said to be impacted. This condition can cause swelling and severe discomfort.

Once your wisdom teeth are extracted, it is essential to follow the directions for after care. Wisdom teeth extractions are considered oral surgery so it is important that you rest and stay away from alcoholic beverages and smoking. Continued bleeding at the extraction site is normal. You will have gauze to place over the area and bite on to stop the bleeding. Change the gauze as needed. Propping your head up as you rest will help stop the bleeding. Ice packs will aid in keeping the swelling down and you may be given a prescription for pain medication. You will receive additional instructions before you leave the office. Remember to follow all the instructions for a swift and healthy recovery. If you're ready for your wisdom teeth to be removed, please contact The Grove Family Dentistry to schedule your appointment.
